Health care work continues to be the highest-paid field in greater Phoenix.
Updated 2019 data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that of the 25 highest-paying jobs in the Valley, the majority are in the medical field. That ranges from anesthesiologist to internist and pharmacists and podiatrists.

The latest jobs data, released earlier this month, represents the 12-month period ending in May 2018. The highest-paid job in the region is anesthesiologist, with an annual mean salary of $277,950. That’s significantly higher than the annual mean of $50,520 for the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale metropolitan area as a whole.
Still, that average annual salary is just over 2% higher than in 2017.
The metro’s mean hourly wage is $24.29, according to BLS numbers, which compares with the mean hourly wage for area anesthesiologists of $133.63.
Anesthesiologists usurped the top-earning spot in the region from psychiatrists, which were the highest-paid in metro Phoenix in 2017. Both are among the seven professions in the region that earn north of $200,000 annually.
BLS’s newest data comes from more than 2.05 million Valley residents.
