(Tempe, AZ) – Tempe Center for the Arts sponsored by Northern Trust celebrates its 10th Anniversary Year in 2017/18, and will kick off with a Gala weekend September 8 featuring American Idol winner and Arizona native, Jordin Sparks and September 9 featuring Too Marvelous For Words: The Story of Nat ‘King’ Cole starring Keith David. At the center of cultural life in Tempe, the TCA will host a wide array of events throughout the year with its 2017-18 “TCA Presents” series.

Season highlights include international street dance sensation Lil Buck in November; edgy, versatile and fresh all-female Flor de Toloache in February; and Gidion’s Knot a play by Johnna Adams and co-produced with Stray Cat Theatre in April. Disrupt FEST, the TCA’s signature festival mashup of live music & theatre, expands to two nights this year.

“It’s exciting to be celebrating our 10th year along with the launch of our 2017-18 “TCA Presents” season. Tempe has a thriving entertainment scene drawing thousands for live music and theatre. We’re proud to play such a central part of it.”-  Ralph Remington, Artistic Director, Tempe Center for the Arts / City of Tempe Arts & Cultural Deputy Director.

With its iconic architecture and stunning esthetic detail, the $65 million Tempe Center for the Arts opened to the public on September 9, 2007.  As the home for Tempe’s highly regarded performing arts organizations, the Center was the result of over a decade of planning and thousands of hours of effort to create a cultural destination for the City of Tempe.  Since opening its doors with glittering fanfare, the TCA has hosted hundreds of performances, events and exhibitions, greeting thousands of audiences and visitors from around the world.

As part of its 10th Anniversary, the TCA will kick off the season with an Anniversary Gala on September 8th to celebrate the past and look to the future as it expands to present some of the most compelling and ground-breaking artists on the scene today.  Hosted by Friends of TCA, the Gala is presented by Northern Trust and features a pre-concert reception, Jordin Sparks in concert, and a post-show meet and greet.

Cory McCloskey, FOX 10 News is the emcee for the evening.

The Gallery at TCA will open its season with “Tempe Xhibition,” (Sept. 8 – Jan. 6) featuring artists and creatives that have given Tempe its, smart, creative, funky and innovative vibe.  The Gallery at TCA will host a preview September 8th during the 10th Anniversary Celebration and public opening reception September 9th – 6 – 9 p.m. The Gallery is free and open to the public Tuesday – Saturday.  Visit www.tempe.gov/tcagallery.
